"Green Way" participates in the British Council’s Big Wild Read project
Union "Green Way" is collaborating with the British Council on their new project in schools of Tbilisi and several regions of Georgia. The Big Wild Read is an annual competition promoting English skills and the theme this year is the environment. Children are expected to read at least six books with a green message and then produce a poster about helping the planet.
"Green Way" staff have been visiting schools to hold seminars on environmental matters such as climate change, pollution and recycling. Follow up sessions have been held at the British Council Library with a native English speaker from "Green Way", to discuss the books and their ideas further. Children involved in the scheme improve confidence in English and learn about important environmental issues absent from the school curriculum.
A panel will judge the posters in March 2008. A celebration garden party will be held on 22 April, 2008 (Earth Day) for all entrants and to announce the winners.
